Dear Sister

I saw about that claim of [Warren's], and it is worth nothing, the Sheriff having failed to make his certificate. Whilst in Richmond, I called on Mr. Carlisle, and was received by him, in a very cordial manner, and during my stay there, he allowed no opportunity to pass unimproved, in which he could manifest his kindness. The night after I left your house I passed out at the head of the Valley river, and the next morning was in about 17 miles of Huntersville. But not withstanding I reached the Hot Springs too late for the Wednesday's stage, and consequently had to wait until Friday.

I am as you have observed at Fort Hamilton, which is on Long Island about ten miles below the city of New York, and on the east bank of the Hudson River. Remember me to Mr. Arnold, the children & c.
