By Richard Long. 21x25. Manuscript map on parchment showing the future site of the Scottish Colony near Panama which existed from 1698 to 1699, when it was captured by the Spanish Army. Darien was to be the Scottish Jamestown and was part of the British effort to expand southward into the Caribbean. The few survivors found refuge in Jamaica.
