Unidentified Mercantile Business Account Book A, 1871-1887, records the accounts of individual customers. Each account lists transactions in chronological order. Information found in the accounts includes items purchased and the amount owed and paid. Merchandise sold includes meal, brandy, bacon, seed, corn, fish, and tobacco. Also recorded are payments made by cash, barter (such as cabbage, horses, and oats) and labor. The back of the volume includes a daily log of work performed by laborers amounting to a quarter of a day, half day, or whole day. Business may be an agricultural supply store.
