Scope and content:

This series includes the files of Ernest W. Brooks, certified surveyor for Richmond, Virginia. The papers indicate that he was a surveyor for W. W. LaPrade and Brothers but were maintained separately. Included are plats for land in Chesterfield, Hanover, and Henrico Counties and Richmond, Virginia. Also included are a small number of plats for land in Amelia, Caroline, Charles City, Essex, Gloucester, Goochland, King and Queen, New Kent, Powhatan, and York Counties, Virginia.

The files were maintained in their original order and may require the researcher to consult all files pertaining to a county to obtain a specific plat. There is much overlap between the two subseries. Researchers also need to check the Oversize Series (Boxes 93-95) for additional Brooks and W. S. Hinton files.
