    <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>Diary in three volumes of Luke Wilcox, a Kanawha County farmer, merchant, salt well and furnace owner and operator, written in memorandum form except for scattered entries giving more information on specific subjects, such as the weather, churches and ministers, farm operation, travel, salt wells and furnaces, slaves, names of personal and business correspondents, coal, and land purchases. Detailed lists of correspondents and subjects are available.</p><p>Addendum of 1992-09-19 (4 pages in 1 folder) contains photocopies of the birth, marriage, and death records kept in the Wilcox family bible, 1795-1879. The bible was owned by Luke Wilcox; birth and death date for him, his wife, and children, as well as marriage dates for Wilcox daughters and their husbands, are mentioned in the family record.</p>  </scopecontent>
