Most of the letters are between Lakin and Dr. Henry D. Hatfield; subjects include medical and hospital affairs, the Greater Huntington Hospital Association, the Kessler-Hatfield Hospital in Huntington, and applications for political office. There are occasional references to politics and business conditions. There are a few letters between Lakin and John W. Davis when Davis was U.S. Solicitor General, 1913-1916, and U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, 1920.
