Family names Hibbs and Cunningham also appear frequently in the collection. Contains the following series: correspondence; financial records; land records; legal records; legal correspondence; election records; funeral records; oil, gas, and coal records; subjects; photograph; and scrapbook. Election records includes a list of voters (1908) and a poll record for a U.S. Presidential election (1928). Oil, gas and coal records contains leases and agreements concerning drilling and mining on Kendall family land in the Mannington District (ca. 1900-1930). The Scrapbook contains pension records regarding Minerva Hibbs, widow of William W. Hibbs who served with the 12th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War; it also contains a printed invitation to a "Mother's Day Service" and two hand-written tributes to mothers, among other items.</abstract>

<p>Papers of the Kendall Family of Mannington District, Marion County, West Virginia. Family names Hibbs and Cunningham also appear frequently in the collection. Contains the following series: correspondence; financial records; land records; legal records; legal correspondence; election records; funeral records; oil, gas, and coal records; subjects; photograph; and scrapbook.</p><p>The correspondence series includes letters between members of the Kendall family on personal and legal subjects (ca. 1920-1935).</p><p>Financial records includes two certificates for stock in the General Flat Glass Company owned by Sadie Kendall (1927).</p><p>Land records includes deeds and land surveys (ca. 1850-1945).</p><p>Legal records and legal correspondence mainly concern the wills and estates of deceased Kendall family members (ca. 1900-1945).</p><p>Election records include a list of voters (1908) and a poll record for a U.S. Presidential election (1928). (Howard Kendall was elected an election commissioner in 1928 and 1932.)</p><p>Funeral records includes an elegy for Sadie Kendall (1952), a letter to N.F. Kendall concerning the burial of "Port" (1929), receipts for the purchase of headstones for Charles Hibbs (undated), William W. Hibbs (undated), and Nora I. Cunningham and Minerva J. Hibbs (1941).</p><p>Oil, gas, and coal records contains leases and agreements concerning drilling and mining on Kendall family land in the Mannington District (ca. 1900-1930).</p><p>Subjects includes three documents relating to the Ku Klux Klan, including a circular of Mannington Klan Number 50 (1920, undated); three lists of property for an unidentified estate; an advertisement for a personals service (1928); and a floor plan.</p><p>Photograph is a mounted group portrait of men at a construction site, one of whom is identified as Walker Yost (ca. 1910-1925).</p><p>The scrapbook contains pension records regarding Minerva Hibbs, widow of William W. Hibbs who served with the 12th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. It also contains a printed invitation to a "Mother's Day Service" and two hand-written tributes to mothers, genealogical information concerning the Hibbs family, records of births and marriages, funeral records for Howard L. Kendall (1938) and Nora I. Cunningham (1940), newspaper clippings regarding community happenings and other subjects, unidentified photographs, maps, an incomplete repair manual for Ford automobiles, and other materials (ca. 1900 to 1950).</p>  </scopecontent>
