<p>The Mon Valley Tri-State Network (MVTSN) is an umbrella group of economic development specialists based in Morgantown, West Virginia, that coordinates the efforts of individual organizations involved with the economic revitalization along the Monongahela River Valley. The MVTSN was founded by David C. Harrison, who also acted as executive director from 1984 to 1995. The organization held its first meeting in October 1984, which led up to the first Mon Valley Summit Conference in November 1986 that established the framework for the network's organizational structure and agenda.</p>  </bioghist>

<p>The Mon Valley Tri-State Network (MVTSN), established in 1984, is an umbrella group of economic development specialists based in Morgantown, West Virginia, that coordinates the efforts of individual organizations involved with the economic revitalization along the Monongahela River Valley. Records of the MVTSN, including project and funding proposals; organizational, committee, and board of directors' materials; symposia and conference proceedings; financial and legal materials; and membership materials from 1984 to 1995, document the early operations of the organization, its interests in transportation and water policy, and the creation of its leadership academy.</p><p>
Network, committee, and board of directors' materials document the organization of the network and its operation from 1987 to 1995. These include network incorporation, registration materials, and by-laws from 1988 (box 11); board and executive committee meeting documents (list of officers and members, by-laws), recommendations, and agendas, 1987-1989 (box 13); board meeting reports, minutes, strategic retreats, annual reports, 1989-1990 (box 12); biennial reports, meeting agendas, strategic plans, and network member resumes, 1994-1995 (box 7).</p><p>
Project and funding proposals and other related materials document the network's efforts to organize conferences and establish recommendations for various initiatives. These materials include reading project files, 1984-1986 (box 12); proposal drafts, correspondence, and meeting and program agendas related to water policy, 1984-1986 (box 6 and box 8) and 1990-1995 (box 1 and box 2); committee notes, plans for trails, riverfront studies, and funding proposals related to development along the Monongahela River, December 1993 (box 11); and materials from the network's Information Technology Committee, 1994 (box 11).</p><p>
Symposia and conference proceedings chiefly relate to the Monongahela River Valley Summit Conference in 1986 (box 6) and 1987 (box 10, box 6, box 14). Types of materials include drafts of proceedings, meeting agendas, session information and abstracts, press coverage, logistics; notes and resolutions; and project assignments. Audio cassette recordings of sessions at the first conference in November 1986 and the second conference in November 1987 as well as from other conferences and summits held between 1988 and 1990 can be found in box 3.</p><p>
Financial and legal documents include tax materials, business license, charitable organization registration, 1980s-1990s (box 5); operating account book, financial statements, and receipts (box 5); annual reports, 1990s (box 2); and contributions and expenditures, early 1990s (box 15).</p><p>
Membership materials include member index cards (box 2), date of membership and payment, 1980s and 1990s (box 3), and invoices (box 4, box 9). Collection also includes publications related to economic community development (box 3, box 15) and public relations materials (box 9, box 13).</p>  </scopecontent>
