Biographical / Historical

The Festival Mondial de la Jeunesse et des Etudiants (or World Festival of Youth and Students) is organized by the World Federation of Democratic Youth and the International Union of Students. The first meeting was held in 1947, in Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). Other festival sites include Moscow, Russia, and Quito, Ecuador. Initially a joint effort between Allied nations and the USSR post-World War II, the event increasingly pushed Soviet ideology during the Cold War.
 </bioghist>
