<p>Acc. 1997.12: 12 reels of microfilm of Hugh Haynie cartoons and 3 volumes of indexes of people, subjects, symbols, etc. going back to 1974.</p><p>Acc. 1997.20: 25 cartoons, mostly originals and from the 1960s, by Hugh Haynie.</p><p>Acc. 1997.44: 17 boxes of Hugh Haynie cartoons numbering approximately 5600 individual cartoons, a portion of which are copies.</p><p>Acc. 1999.28: Four sketches and cartoons by Hugh Haynie. Included are two framed cartoons, a pair of men in zoot suits, an untitled bust (1947), Jefferson and the Declaration, and Carter-Ford debate (1976) in color signed by artist.</p><p>Acc. 2000.30: One box of microfilm of Hugh Haynie cartoons and subject index.</p><p>Acc 2010.179: undated pen and ink drawing of 2 cartoon characters in "zoot" suits with large hats and pipes. 9 3/8" x7".  Gift from Abner K Pratt II '45 and Elizabeth Hayes Pratt '49 knew Haynie while at W&amp;M. Item was first received in 1986 by the Muscarelle Museum of Art then transferred to the Special Collections Research Center in 1997. The Pratt's believe one of the cartoon characters is William E Barksdale '50. </p><p>Acc 2010.180: Pencil drawing of a Renaissance sculpture bust dated 1947. 21" x 16". Gift from Abner K Pratt II '45 and Elizabeth Hayes Pratt '49. Item was first received in 1987 by the Muscarelle Museum of Art then transferred to the Special Collections Research Center in 1997.</p><p>Acc. 2011.025: contains an original cartoon regarding the treatment of naval officers and their spouses and accompanying newspaper clippings.</p><p>Acc. 2011.581: contains printed material relating to Hugh Haynie's retirement, clippings about Haynie's hiring at the Louisville Courier-Journal, and reproductions of Haynie cartoons from the 1980s, mostly referencing Ronald Reagan and the Iran-Contra scandal.</p><p>Acc. 2012.086: contains a political cartoon drawn by Hugh Haynie, dated September 18, 1964 for The Courier Journal, featuring Barry Goldwater pushing an old car with the caption "We try harder. We have to. We're only No. 2. And we don't know why. Why, why, why, why, why." The cartoon ran during Goldwater's presidential campaign in 1964 and is copyright of the Los Angeles Times. Also included is a 1967 Christmas card signed by Hugh Haynie for his friend Al Louer. Finally, this accession contains a sign drawn by Hugh Haynie to announce a garden party at his friend A Louer's house during Homecoming for the College of William and Mary class of 1967, circa 1966. One side of the sign contains directions to the party with a map of Colonial Williamsburg attached, and the other side features a naked woman with "Snatch a moment away from the Homecoming Parade."</p><p>Acc. 2012.199: Contains a copy of an illustration by Hugh Haynie titled "News Will Certainly Be a Lot Duller Without Ol' Ev...", distributed by the Los Angeles Times syndicate on September 9, 1969, and an article from The Courier Journal about the retirement of Hugh Haynie, dated October 1, 1995.</p><p>Acc. 2014.155: Contains a proof of a political cartoon created by Hugh Haynie for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate in 1966. The cartoon features Lyndon Johnson as a night in Mickey Mouse ears trying to fight a dragon labeled strike abuses. The cartoon reads "We'll smite the mighty dragon, Because he is so-o-o-o bad! Yes, we'll thrash him and we'll bash him...But--We dare not make him mad!"
 
Acc. 2018.066 cartoons are story boards that were signed and given to Mrs. Helen G. Cooke March 21, 1965.  They are titled, "March and Counter March" and "If I am Managing the News, I Must Be a Lousy Manager."  Within these cartoons, as with all of Haynie's illustrations, his wife's name "Lois" can be seen, three times in each cartoon.</p>  </scopecontent>
