    <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>Diary, 1877-1884, of Edmund Dean of South Dakota. Includes description of Dean's life at college, his marriage, the birth of his children, the Great Railroad Strike of 1877, and other current events. There is also an account of his move from Iowa to South Dakota, including interaction with others on the road. Dean also describes a lecture that he attended that was led by Eliza Stewart, one of the leaders of the Temperance movement.</p>  </scopecontent>
