    <head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>Battery "D" Light Artillery Blues of Lynchburg was a Virginia militia unit. This battery was one of 5 that made up the First Battalion Artillery under the command of Major William E. Simons.</p><p>Identified in the photograph are Captain R. D. [Robert] Yancey, First Lieutenant S. H. [Samuel] Dillon, Junior Second Lieutenant T. E. [Thomas] Craddock, and Surgeon Carter Wade.  Each man is in uniform.  Dr. Wade is wearing a cap. The other three men have light artillery helmets.</p>  </scopecontent>
