<p>Letter from Jubal A. Early, no place, to General Bradley T. Johnson and General John McCausland, Commanding Cavalry, no place.  In response to General David Hunter burning of the homes of Edmond I. Lee, Alexander R. Boteler, and Andrew Hunter in Jefferson County, Va., [W. Va.], the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va., and the iron works and home of Joseph R. Anderson in Botetourt County, Va., he orders the two generals to demand the immediate payment of $500,000 "and, if not paid, burn the city" [Chambersburg, Pa.]. Typescript.</p>  </scopecontent>
