    <head>Content Description</head>
<p>This collection contains one leather-bound photo album compiled by <persname>Dr. Minor Carson Lile</persname> between 1909 and 1917. It includes thirty-nine black and white photographs, many with captions or initials that provide a snapshot of life at the University. Photographs include images of the Routunda, Pavilion X,<corpname> Birdwood</corpname>, a baseball game at <corpname>Lambeth Field</corpname> with Minor playing third base, family photographs of the Liles participating in activities on the Lawn, and horseback riding on Grounds. A picture of young <persname>John Allison Lile</persname> on horseback against the famed serpentine walls of UVA. Also included are photographs of Minor and his future wife, <persname>Gretchen Edgar</persname>, in Flordia and Edgar's family estate, Birdwood. Of note are two sports photographs towards the back of the album. One depicts a baseball game at Lambeth Field, roughly around 1912 or 1913, and the third baseman is potentially <persname>Minor Carson Lile</persname>. One is a shot from the Virginia at Georgetown football game on November 13, 1909. During this game, Virginia running back <persname>Archer Christian</persname> sustained a fatal head injury as a result of a tackle. An "x" is placed above Christian's head in the photograph. Many photographs of or including Minor are labeled with a handwritten "M.C.L."</p> </scopecontent>
