<p>Liberty Hall Academy was originally founded as Augusta Academy in 1749. The school became Liberty Hall Academy when the school moved from Augusta County to a location in Timber Ridge (in current day Rockbridge County). The name changed a couple of more times before being named Washington and Lee University in 1870.</p> </bioghist>
