<p>This collection contains two diplomas received by William E. Walkup in 1827: his B. A. from Washington College, now Washington and Lee University, and a diploma presented by the Graham Philanthropic Society, one of the literary societies at Washington College.</p>  </scopecontent>

    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Dr. William E. Ethelbert Walkup, Sr. was born in Lexington on October 22, 1806. He graduated from Washington and Lee University, then Washington College, in 1827. He died on November 6, 1883 and is buried in Botetourt County, Virginia.</p>  </bioghist>
