<p>This collection contains certificates of distinction given to William Henry Tayloe on June 23, 1870 and June 26, 1873 by the faculty at Washington and Lee University, then Washington College. He was awarded the certificates for completing studies in Greek, Latin, mathematics, modern history, German, Moral Philosophy, English Language and Literature, Chemistry, Geology, and Natural Philosophy.</p>  </scopecontent>

    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>William Henry Tayloe was born in Alabama on August 26, 1852. He graduated from Washington and Lee University with a B.A. in 1873 and a B.L. in 1875. He died on December 19, 1942 at the age of 90.</p>  </bioghist>
