<p>William Murray Whittle was born in 1895 in Martinsville, Virginia, and graduated VMI in 1917. He commissioned into the United States Army in August 1917, and served in World War I in France from May 1918 to end of the War. Whittle was living in Roanoke in 1942. No further information is known at this time.</p>  </bioghist>

<p>The William M. Whittle papers consist of the military papers of Whittle, VMI Class of 1917. Whittle served in World War I with the United States Army, 314th Machine Gun Battalion and was sent to France in May 1918. The papers include:
