<p>This collection consists of Edward Steidtmann's diary that he kept during his trip to Alaska in the summer and fall of 1918. Daily entries give a detailed account of the journey, and a few entries are dated before and after the trip.</p>  </scopecontent>

<p>Edward Steidtmann was born in 1881 near Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin. From 1923 to 1948 he was a VMI faculty member (Professor of Mineralogy and Geology). Steidtmann died in 1948 in Lexington, Virginia.</p>  </bioghist>
