The ledger was formerly assigned call number SU 2004-1216, Student Loan Ledger and Alumni Scrapbook.
The ledger was maintained by Howard K. Gibbons (1896-1975), treasurer and business manager at Madison College for 41 years, from 1925 until 1966. Prior to 1928, the state student loan fund records were maintained in a receipt register of the Maintenance and Operating Fund of the College. After July 1st, 1936, the records were transferred to a Burroughs Automatic Bookkeeping Machine.
The State Student Loan Fund Ledger contains record of student loans at the State Teachers College at Harrisonburg, from 1928-1936. The ledger contains names of student lenders, record of their loan at 4% interest, payments, and the fund balance. Funds were held at the First National Bank, likely the Harrisonburg branch.
The ledger remains bound and is housed in a box.
