Historical Information

The town of Leesburg, Virginia was established in 1758. After originally being in the possession of Lord Thomas Fairfax, the land on which Leesburg would be founded was eventually sold to Francis Awbrey in 1730. By 1757 the site was chosen as the location for the Loudoun County Courthouse by the Assembly of Virginia, which led to the town being officially named Leesburg, after the Lee family, the following year.
 </bioghist>
