<p>Market Street Park (formerly known as Lee Park) is located in downtown Charlottesville, bounded by Jefferson Street, First Street N.E., Market Street, and Second Street N.E. The land was purchased and donated to the City of Charlottesville by Paul G. McIntire in memory of his parents. McIntire's intention was to also include a statue of Robert E. Lee, which was unveiled in 1924. The park is the site of community festivals, events, and protests. The City of Charlottesville renamed the park Emancipation Park (2017-2018)before it was bestowed its current name Market Street Park. The City removed the Lee Statue in 2021.
