The processing, arrangement, and description of the Beattie Family University Memorabilia were completed in August 2021.
Claibourne Walton Beattie, Sr. (1896-1971), graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with the class of 1919. His son Claibourne Walton Beattie, Jr. (1923-1978), was a student at VPI who graduated with the class of 1951 and later joined the U. S. Navy. Both are buried in Westwood Memorial Gardens, Chilhowie, Smyth County, Virginia.
This collection contains Virginia Polytechnic Institute memorabilia from alumni Claibourne Walton Beattie, Sr., and his son Claibourne Walton Beattie, Jr. The collection contains a 1924 graduation invitation and a 1951 commencent program. The collection also includes several programs and bulletins related to events on campus. There are several pieces of a cadet uniform, such as a hat, rat belt, and cords.
