    <head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>Each of the Named/Individual Photograph Collections has a description in the inventory. The majority of the collections, however, are from alumni and former faculty and staff, or individuals with ties to campus and the New River Valley. Collections depict campus life and events, railroad history, agricultural extension research, Blacksburg and surrounding areas, and some local families. Each named collection listed has at least one photograph; some subjects have multiple folders or boxes. </p><p>In most cases, collections are named for the collector/creator or based on the subject matter.</p>  </scopecontent>

Most of the photos were taken by Henry Harris Hill in the early 1900s (Hill was a 1907 graduate of VPI and a member of the Chemistry faculty from 1907 to 1950.) Watkins was born on 8 June 1896, in Danville, Virginia. His father, William Wirt Watkins, was 45 and his mother, Charlotte Elizabeth Watson, was 38. His father died in 1907 and his mother passes away the same year he graduated VPI, 1920. BThe year after graduation when he married Kate Louise Wooldridge on 20 September 1921, in Big Lick, Roanoke, Virginia. He died in 1974, at the age of 78, and was buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, Pennsylvania.</abstract></did></c><c id="aspace_ref76_mof" level="file"><did><unittitle>WAUGH, DAN BLAIR</unittitle><abstract id="aspace_29694d8ef9afc301a2893c0182ff882b">Attended VPI from 1907-10.
