    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>F. B. Deane was a partner in the Deane &amp; Son Foundry in Lynchburg, VA. Prior to the Civil War, they manufactured railroad cars and during the war they manufactured shells and shot. Virginia Business directories suggest that the Foundry was out of business by 1880.</p>  </bioghist>

    <head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>The collection includes a letter from F. B. Deane, Jr. of Deane &amp; Son Foundry, Lynchburg, Nov. 23, 1864. The letter request permission from Brigadier General John Echols to transport pork to Dublin and Abingdon VA. The Foundry was responsible for manufacturing ordnance during the Civil War. On the back of the letter there is a note from Echols recommending approval.</p>  </scopecontent>
