Scope and Content

This letter was written by Robert Walton to his sister Elizabeth McClanahan. In this letter, Walton describes his travels from Abingdon, Virginia, to Augusta, Georgia–his place of residence. He tells his sister of his possible trip to New York in the coming summer, during which he will attempt to stop in Botetourt, Virginia–the area in which his sister lives. In this letter, Walton also makes reference to his intention to marry "E." this is most likely a reference to his marriage soon after to Evalina Sarah Watkins.
 </scopecontent>
