    <head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Jubal A. Early (1816-1894) was a Confederate general in the Civil War. He was born in Franklin County, Virginia, and a Lynchburg, Virginia, resident most of his life. In 1866, he published <title render="italic">A Memoir of the Last Year of the War for Independence in the Confederate States of America</title>.</p>  </bioghist>
