 Historical Information

Frederick County was named for Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales and eldest son of George II. It was formed from Orange County in 1738, but the county government was not organized until 1743. Part of Augusta County was added later.

Scope and Content

Frederick County (Va.) Loyalty Oaths, 1865-1866, consist of oaths signed by male residents of Frederick County in which they promise to "support the Constitution of the United States and the laws made in pursuance thereof as the supreme law of the land."
