The Robert Alonzo Brock Collection was filmed by The Huntington Library in cooperation with The Library of Virginia with funding provided by The Library of Virginia Foundation with the support of The Roller-Bottimore Foundation and The Robins Foundation. Microfilm received 15 April 2004.

Historical Information

Buckingham County probably was named either for the English county or for the duke of Buckingham. According to some sources, however, the name came from Archibald Cary's tract of land called Buckingham, on what was then Willis's Creek. It was formed from Albemarle County in 1761.

Records were destroyed by fire in 1869.

Scope and Content

Buckingham County (Va.) Deed and Land Grants, 1804-1857. The collection contains a deed and two land grants, as follows: a land grant to John Henderson, 1831 June 10; a land grant to Robert Rodgers, 1804 May 28; and a deed between George Montague and Lucy Ann his wife and Elisha Jackson, 1857 Apr. 29.
