Camillus Christian (1834-1915) was a prominent Lynchburg businessman and served at various times as an officer of the National Exchange Bank of Lynchburg, Virginia Slate and Mining Company, Pine Run Coal and

Scope and Content

Records, 1881-1902, of Camillus Christian of Lynchburg, Virginia. Includes accounts, correspondence, estate papers, ledgers, letter books, receipts, and stock registers. The ledgers, 1881-1901, contain numerous
entries relating to a farm owned by Christian in Appomattox County, Virginia. This farm appears to have been operated for him by Daniel and Lewis Preston. The letter book, 1892-1897, relates predominantly to
Christian's function as a cashier of the National Exchange Bank. Topics include receipt of notes, bonds, and coupons, and requests for payments on accounts.

Also included is a stock register, undated, and an account book, 1889, of Rucker and Jennings, dealers in foreign and United States stamps. The loose papers, 1888-1902, include checks, circulars from the
National Exchange Bank of Lynchburg and the YMCA, correspondence, and receipts.

Included are three ledgers containing information on the estates of E.B. Estes, John J. Murrell, and Mary R.C. Steptoe. George M. Murrell and Camillus Christian were the executors. Also included is a circular,
correspondence, and receipts relating to the estate of Mary R.C. Steptoe.
