Highway maps for the 55 counties of West Virginia created in 1937. They are in two tones (blue on white), in varying dimensions (including items in the range of 36 in. x 36 in. to 36 in. x 58 in., etc.), and scaled to 1 inch equaling 1 mile. Features indicated on the maps include: roads (US, primary state roads, secondary state roads); state, county, district, and corporate lines; railroads; streams; parks and forests; highway bridges; county seats; cities and villages; lodges; farms; houses; businesses; oil and gas wells; commercial airfields; schools; churches; mines; power plants; factories; hotels; and other information.

Gibson Lamb Cranmer Papers regarding Statehood and Other Material 0.4 Linear Feet 5 in. (2 document cases, 2 1/2 in. each)

Papers regarding West Virginia statehood and the history of Wheeling and Ohio County compiled by Judge Gibson L. Cranmer (1826-1903) of Wheeling, West Virginia, who served as secretary of the Wheeling Convention that repudiated Virginia's secession from the United States in 1861. Series 1 includes manuscript narratives and correspondence describing events of the West Virginia statehood movement, written by eyewitnesses at the request of Gibson L. Cranmer. Manuscript authors include John S. Burdett, John S. Carlile, Daniel Frost, Lewis Ruffner, and Benjamin Wilson. Series 2 includes Cranmer's handwritten notes, drafts of articles, copies of documents, and letters solicited by him regarding the history of Wheeling and Ohio County, West Virginia. Institute for the History of Technology and Industrial Archaeology
Records of the Institute for the History of Technology and Industrial Archaeology (IHTIA) pertaining to its work on Blair Mountain, Logan County, WV, the site of the Battle of Blair Mountain. Fought in 1921, this battle was a culmination of the largest civil uprising since the Civil War, featuring the confrontation of mine workers with state police and volunteer militia. The collection includes correspondence, typescripts, maps, clippings, photographs, and artifacts that pertain to the Blair Mountain reconnaissance survey, cultural resource survey and recording project, and symposium. Highlights include typescript copies of a report on the Blair Mountain Cultural Resource Survey and Recording Project, typescript copies of documentation related to Historic American Engineering Records project HAER WV-50, shell casings found on Blair Mountain that might date to the battle, and core samples of Blair Mountain trees. A listing of artifacts can be found in box 5, folder 21; artifacts are in box 6. Tree core samples are in box 7. Queen City Coal Company

Postcard distributed by the Queen City Coal Company advertising Island Creek Coal, which was produced by the coal mining town of Holden in Logan County, West Virginia. The Queen City Coal Company was located in Cincinnati, Ohio and operated from 1905 until 1921. The postcard also contains two packs of sewing needles of varying sizes.

Structural and topographical maps of various locations in West Virginia. Most maps were created by the West Virginia Geological Survey. Counties depicted include Boone, Braxton, Brooke, Calhoun, Clay, Gilmer, Hancock, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Marshall, Mingo, Nicholas, Ohio, Roane, Tyler, Wetzel, and Wirt County. Geological and geographical features depicted include coal, oil, gas, iron ore, and limestone areas; Berea grit/sand and Injun Sand; state roads; railroads; and virgin and cut-over forest areas.
