Beatrice Jeanne Wright Diary

Travel diary of Beatrice Jeanne Wright while en route from San Francisco, California to Guam, with a three day stop in Hawaii, in the Fall of 1948. Wright records her experiences of her journey on board the USS General H. W. Butner (AP-113), the people she met and interacted with, her time in Hawaii while en route, and her daily life once she arrived in Guam. Wright's work in Guam was in the capacity of a U.S. Government civil service employee. She spends a great deal of time detailing her relationships with her co-workers, roommates and newly found friendships with other women and men. She also comments regularly about the weather noting rain fall and typhoon conditions. Interspersed with her entries are ship's bulletins from the USS General H. W. Butner, church service programs, and personal ephemera items related to her journey to Guam. The diary includes two manila envelopes that contained pictures of Marine Corps Barracks, pictures of Beatrice Jeanne Wright and Jerry Jarrett, codochrome slides and two negatives of the two individuals.

Travel diary along with itinerary, charted courses, pictures, and mementos kept by Beatrice Livingstone, wife of Lieutenant John Livingstone. Contains records of the travels of Beatrice L. Livingstone on Navy ships and cruise liners from 1926-1929. Ships include the USS Chaumont, SS President Madison, SS President Jackson, and SS Malolo. Ephemera includes newspapers, tickets, maps, telegrams, cablegrams, and pamphlets from the Panama Canal Zone, the Pacific coast of the United States, Manila, Shanghai, Peking, Kyoto, and Tokyo. Includes detailed descriptions, photographs of Beatrice Livingstone and her party, and maps from the USS Chaumont route from Annapolis, Maryland to Manila, Philippines in 1926 with stops in Guantanamo, Cuba; Coco Solo, Panama Canal Zone; San Diego, California; San Pedro, California; San Francisco, California; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Guam. Excursions from Manila include visits to Shanghai and Peking, China as well as the Yangtze River. Later trips include ephemera and photographs from Kyoto and Tokyo, Japan.

This collection primarily concerns Clara Louise Walde Lawrence's career as a nurse in the period before, during, and after World War I. Materials in the collection include correspondence, scrapbooks, diaries, photographs and negatives, pamphlets, medical supplies, and other publications. Most of the correspondence, photographs, and publications relate to either WWI or nursing. Notable correspondents include a letter from Julia Cherney (Bateman) to Clara Walde while serving as a missionary in China. Other items of interest include a 1763 Boston Gazette as well as several 19th century American newspapers. The collection also includes Lawrence's Veterans Administration account books from the 1930s.

The following description was provided by the seller: "1933 handwritten diary of Clara-Louise Schiefer who had lived on Westland Ave. in Rochester, NY. Lots of memorabilia stuck in between the pages in regards to that day's entry. Some of the memorabilia items are: Vintage 1933 Halloween invitation to a party on Grosvenor Rd; School football photo of Brighton High School team; newspaper clippings, etc. Ms. Schiefer toured Germany and Switzerland in the summer of 1933 and writes about her trip.

Edith Gibbons Diary

This collection contains the diary of Edith Gibbons of Cleveland, Ohio. It includes information about her time working with the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in England and France just after the end of World War I, giving aid to American soldiers still stationed there. She discusses the scenery and landmarks she encountered, including descriptions of damage done to them from the war. Gibbons also describes her experiences with German prisoners of war and her visit to a prisoner of war camp. Finally, she writes of her interactions with soldiers whom she is helping and relates some of their stories about the war. Also included is Gibbons' passport.
