Material includes signed letter from David H. Strother to Perley Poore, Berkley Springs, March 25, 1858; lottery ticket for town lot in Bath, 1814; Porte Crayon autograph, and a slave list, Berkley County. Photostats of material in the Library of Congress include an signed letter from William Wirt to his daughter, August 31 1823 on Berkeley Springs; Thomas Jefferson to Mr. Rodney Washington, December 8, 1808 in regard to gambler Thomas Bailey's assault on Jefferson's secretary; portion of a Journal of President James K. Polk describing a visit to Bath in 1848; and a section of the journal of Samuel Vaughan noting a visit to Bath in 1787. The collection also includes a section of "Uria Brown's Journal" from the "Maryland Historical Magazine," volumes 11 and 12 (1915, 1916), detailing a visit to the springs at Bath.

Newspaper clippings, mainly from Doddridge and Harrison county, concerning marriages, deaths, family histories, letters from World War I service men, nurses, and from former residents who had moved, or gone to other states to teach, including a series of letters from L.P. Willis from the Phillippine Islands and Japan. Mr.Willis was employed as a teacher and Head Of the Bureau of Education in Japan, and the Phillipines for twenty years. Also, included in the collection are tax and school tuition receipts, orders,unsigned copy of Thomas Hickman's will, deed and other papers of several members of the Hickman family of Harrison county. A photostat copy of a form letter from the State Medical Society Committee on Examination of the Medical Botany of the State addressed to Dr.P. Davis from Wheeling, 1868.

Also, tape recordings of an interview relating to Mr. Harmer's career as an attorney in Clarksburg.

The papers of Hugh Ike Shott of Bluefield, W.Va. Mr. Shott was owner and publisher of The Blue Field Telegraph and the Sunset News. He was also owner of radio stations WHIS of Bluefield, and served as postmaster in Bluefield by appointments of Presidents T. Roosevelt and Taft. He was twice elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, 1928 and 1930, and in 1942 was elected to the U.S. Senate for the unexpired term of M. M. Neely. Mr. Shott was also a member of the W.Va. Semi-Centennial Commission, and the Republican State Committee.

Subjects of Julia Davis's correspondence and notes include a biographical sketch of E.H. McDonald, Miss Davis's grandfather; business letters; reminiscences of the Civil War; and memoirs of Colonel A.W. McDonald. Subjects of John W. Davis's correspondence include family matters, political and business matters, and information about his trips. Correspondents include John W. Davis, William L. Wilson, and Julia McDonald (probably Julia Davis's mother).
