Collection includes typescripts, correspondence, and newspaper clippings. Highlights include mimeographed statements relating to the Sigma Nu Foundation of West Virginia, Inc.; the inauguration of Dr. Irvin Stewart as president of West Virginia University; West Virginia authors; and the University budget. Also included are twelve typescripts of letters written from St. Petersburg, Russia, by a representative of the Ross Winans' Locomotive Works, Baltimore, Maryland (1859-1862).

Papers of Appalachian author Denise Giardina, whose 1987 novel Storming Heaven received the W. D. Weatherford Award, and 1992 novel The Unquiet Earth received the American Book Award and the Lillian Smith Book Award for fiction. The collection includes research notebooks and draft manuscripts of her historical novels Good King Harry, Storming Heaven, The Unquiet Earth, Saints and Villains, and Emily's Ghost.

Correspondence of writer Melville Davisson Post with Louis E. Schrader, a Wheeling court reporter who edited, typed, and often forwarded Post's manuscripts to the publisher. These letters are primarily instructions for Schrader and concern Post's legal writings as well as his detective stories.

These are letters between Post and publishers Edward J. Clode and W. G. Chapman and are concerned with the serial rights to "The Corrector of Destinies."
