He married Eva Goad (1894-1981) on March 4, 1913. They had nine children: Stella, Belva, Gladys, Pauline, Orpha, Hazel, Lorene, and Maggie. In 1916, he bought his first steam-powered sawmill from Cassel Bownam for five hundred dollars. Martin retired from the sawmill industry in 1960. He died on October 1, 1984, and is buried with alongside his wife in C. C.
