Planning for the neighborhood began in 1946 when the land was purchased by developer Robert Davenport and his associate Charles Goodman. Davenport and Goodman wanted to catch the attention of post-war homebuyers, and therefore wanted the neighborhood to be unique, a decision met with both acclaim and opposition. Families began moving into the neighborhood in 1949, and by 1957 the \"Old Hollin Hills\" houses were completed, as well as construction of the pool and tennis courts.
