He earned a master's degree in education in 1954 and a doctorate in 1967 from the University of Colorado at Greeley. Clark served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a lifelong educator and was appointed as a trustee of North Adams State College in 1985 by Gov. Michael Dukakis.
