After receiving his bachelors of science in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1957, Zallen continued his education at Harvard University‐eventually receiving his Ph.D. in Applied Physics in 1964. From 1966 to 1983, Dr. Zallen worked at the Xerox Research Laboratories in Rochester, New York. While working at Xerox, he was part of a team that patented Spin Coated Photoconductor Films. ","After his research at Xerox, Dr. Zallen served as a professor of physics at Virginia Tech. In 1976 Dr. Zallen became a fellow of the American Physical Society. During his sabbaticals, Dr. Zallen held several visiting appointments. From 1971 to 1972 he acted as the visiting associate professor of physics at the Technion, The Israel Institute of Technology, in Haifa; in the summer of 1979 he was the visiting professor at the Université de Paris VI; from 1990 to 1991 he was the SERC senior research fellow at Imperial College in London; and in 1998 he served as the visiting professor at Imperial College in London. The office leads the university community in promoting George Mason University as a world-class institution of higher education.\n","Broadside, George Mason University's official student newspaper, began its life as The Gunston Ledger. An eight-page monthly printed on 12 inch by 9 inch paper, The Gunston Ledger first appeared on October 15, 1963 on the then George Mason College campus located in Bailey's Crossroads. On the staff of twelve students included a photography editor, Richard Sparks, and he contributed two to four photos for each edition. The content consisted of campus news, features on GMC faculty and students, engagement and wedding notices, and some commentary.\nThe Ledger became the Broadside on October 28, 1969. It was explained in that issue that the name change was part of an effort to remake the paper into more of a news instrument like that of the nation's revolutionary fathers. The Broadside was a weekly paper which contained sixteen or more pages in each issue. Photography in the Broadside was mostly limited to campus events and personalities.\nToday, Broadside is a modern newspaper. It is generated via computer and is published in a large, folded newspaper format. With two issues each week, it is produced more frequently. Its news is local, national, and international in scope. Besides campus news, the paper features national and world events, entertainment, music, and restaurant reviews, sports, and commentary. Photography for each issue is provided by both digital and traditional 35mm format cameras. Broadside uses staff photographers and major wire service outlets for its photographs.\n","As publication of the George Mason University Yearbook ceased in 1988, GM View: The George Mason Video Yearbook was born. Mason had maintained a print version of the yearbook since 1965 under various names (i.e. Advocate, By George, Patriotism, and others).\nGM View has been in continuous publication since 1989. Though each year's production is different from the others, they all have maintained the same basic format: a length of about 30 minutes; and coverage of university sports, greek, and campus events (such as Mason and Patriots' Day, International Week celebrations, graduations, etc).\nThis digital collection was created with the kind, generous, and expert help from the staff of GMU TV and Digital Programs and Systems, George Mason University Libraries. \n","The George Mason University Foundation was established in 1966 to advance and further the aims and purposes of George Mason University. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation organized and operated exclusively for the benefit of the university. The foundation assists the university in generating private support, and manages, invests, and administers private gifts, including endowment and real property. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees, led by a chairman.\n","The George Mason University photograph collection is a combination of nine series: University Relations, Broadside Student Newspaper, Yearbook Photographs, George Mason University Foundation, Athletic Department, Office of Admissions, Office of the Registrar, photographs from unidentified offices, and Creative Services. The total collection contains over 12,000 color and black and white photographs, including prints, contact sheets, and negatives, taken between the 1950s and 2007.\n","Series 1 contains 1696 folders which contain thousands of photographs; estimated to contain 10,000 photogaphs or more. The Soviet Military Administration created DEFA following the end of World War II and the establishment of the military districts that divided Germany. In 1949 the newly formed Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR) developed DEFA into a film studio with strict guidelines for creating works that favored socialist prospectives. Even though the strict rules on content limited the number of films created by DEFA, the number of films distributed by Progress Film Vertrieb increased as more and more cinemas opened. By the 1970s, Progress Film Vertrieb distributed films from 30 countries. The posters range in size from 21 x 57.5 cm to 84 x 59.5 cm. Although the posters date from 1947-1995, the majority fall between 1950 and 1990. The collection includes a poster for the 1965 DEFA production of \"The Rabbit is Me,\" which was banned by the DDR as anti-socialist. Another poster for \"Your Unknown Brother,\" a film that was nominated for the Cannes Film Festival, was withdrawn by DDR officials. A poster for \"Jacob the Liar,\" the first and only DDR film to be nominated for an Academy Award in 1975, was not released to the public until 1989. A significant portion of the posters are for films produced outside the former Eastern Bloc, but they often promote socialist concepts or have socialist undertones. For example, one of the posters advertises for \"Trading Places,\" an American film about two wealthy capitalists manipulating the marketplace and their downfall arranged by a homeless black man and a white former employee of the capitalists. He served from September 1, 1971 until January 9, 1985. Upon his resignation George R. Healy acted as interim president until Paul R. Verkuil assumed the role of president on July 1, 1985."," Graves graduated from Yale University in 1947 with a bachelor's degree in economics, after suspending his studies after his freshman year to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then went on to Harvard University, completing a master's in business administration in 1949 and a doctorate in 1958."," From 1950 to 1960, Graves held a faculty position at the Harvard business school. In 1960, he moved to Lausanne, Switzerland to become the director of the IMEDE Management Deveopment Institute. He was named the associate dean of the Graduate School of Business of Stanford University in 1964, and also served as the director of Stanford's International Center for the Advancement of Management Education. Graves returned to Harvard from 1967 to 1971 as the associate dean of the Graduate School of Business Administration."," Graves served on advisory boards for a variety of schools and businesses, including Transylania University, Clark University, Reynolds Metals Company, and Life Insurance Company of Virginia. He is also the author of many articles on the management of education and management education."," After leaving William and Mary, Graves became the director, CEO and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Winterthur Museum and Garden in Wilmington, Delaware until 1992. From there, he served as the director of the Grand Opera House in Wilmington as well as a member of the Educational Board of MBNA America Bank.
