He was awarded his Ph.D. at Columbia University in 1928. In 1924 Wynne became the Director of Teacher Education at Longwood which at that time was known as the State Teachers College at Farmville. During his tenure at Longwood, Wynne was directly involved with issues related to education at Longwood. He was also involved in the activities of organizations dedicated to improving education in Virginia, as well as nationwide.
