They were the parents of the following children: Sarah Reid Moore (1777-1860), Andrew Franklin Reid, Jr. (1783-1811), Elizabeth Reid Alexander (1788-1870), Samuel McDowell Reid, Sr. (1790-1869), Magdalene Reid (1793-1867), Ann A. Reid (1795-1863), and Jane Stuart Reid Venable (1800-1834). Reid worked as the Clerk of Court for Rockbridge County, Virginia for many years. From 1825 to 1949 we have received from Jefferson himself,\n            from every generation of his descendants, and from a host of admirers of Jefferson and\n            friends of the University, gifts of Jeffersoniana or funds for their acquisition. Robinson's innovative survey and ingenious design consisted of five level and five inclined planes on either side of the mountain. Stationary steam engines pulled railroad cars up a series of incline planes on one side of the mountain and lowered them down along the inclined plane system on the other side.
