He served and earned a senior officer rank in the United States Navy from from 1942 to 1951. He married Rebecca Morgan in 1943 in Charleston, West Virginia where they lived and had children. He worked in realty and incorporated and was president of the Beattie-Firth Inc Realtors in 1949.
