He resigned from the U. S. Army in 1836. Dimmock served as colonel of ordnance in the Confederate States Army and died October 27, 1863. His son, Charles Henry Dimmock was born in Baltimore, Maryland, October 18, 1831. He was educated under Claude Crozet and worked as a civil engineer with various railroads. He was commissioned captain in the Confederate States Army and was responsible for fortifications at Roanoke Island and around Petersburg, Va.
