Virginia founded the Chesapeake Broadcast Company in 1948 with her first husband, Jason Thomas Pate. She gave a presentation for William and Mary's Career Speaker Series in 1982 about her time and experiences in broadcasting. In 1969 she was awarded the Alumni Medallion. She was a member of the William and Mary Society of the Alumni and participated in planning the fiftieth reunion of the class of 1940. In 1972, she married Edward Wetter and changed her name to Virignia Wetter.
