Over its more than 150 years of operation, the College has fostered the study and care of West Virginia's agricultural resources. Through its research and educational opportunities, the College's programming created innovations such as the blight-resistant tomato, cattle embryo transplantation, and the cataloguing of West Virginia insects. Other projects include the dairy plant, which produced ice cream that was served to the community from the mid-twentieth century until 2004, and the Allegheny Highlands Project, which connected College researchers with farmers across the state. The College also participated in a collaborative project to assist the development of higher education agricultural facilities in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
