He worked in New York City and Paris practicing law before moving to Washington, D.C. in the 1960s.","In 1965 the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was created as an executive cabinet-level agency. HUD's mission is to help promote affordable home ownership and community development. William Nicoson was the first Director of the New Community Assistance Program at HUD. The primary goal of this office was to help foster cooperation among all levels of government and private business, both non-profit and profit. He resigned from this position in 1972.","When he moved to Washington, D.C., from New York City, he moved to the then-new community of Reston, Virginia. Robert E. Simon, Jr. was the founder of Reston. Simon purchased the land with the proceeds from the sale of Carnegie Hall in New York City in 1961. Construction began in 1963 with the building of Lake Anne. After his father's death, William moved with his family to Louisville, Kentucky, where he lived for most of his life. In 1903, William graduated from the Louisville Male High School, and in 1905, he graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law.","In 1917, after several years in private practice, William Taylor Baskett was appointed as the second assistant to Louisville's city attorney. He continued to work in Louisville's legal department until 1933, and from 1924 to 1933, he served as the city attorney.","In 1910, William Taylor Baskett married Sibyl Sunbeam Wilds (1887-1974), with whom he had six children. Baskett died on May 31, 1972, in Indianapolis, Indiana.","This collection consists of seven diaries that William Taylor Baskett (1884-1972) created to document his life in 1903 and 1904, including his experiences as a University of Virginia School of Law student.
